New job and I'm already enjoying a day off for a holiday...Happy Veteran's Day! I found a little post election solace...through my job, I have some distant connection to John Kerry now. I'll be working on a qualitative evaluation of this program he helped fund, among other things. It's a program that does not force people who are chronically homeless and dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse to stop using before they enter a housing program. Housing then recovery, not the other way around...Duh...but that's not usually how it's done.
Matt is in Nashville at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention this week. It's the convention he helped organize when he was a PAS intern in Oklahoma. Very exciting, but now that it's his job to go to these things, I think he's already tired and looking forward to coming home for a couple days. When he went to those things he was always more star struck by the people who worked for the industry, not the famous percussionists. So now that he's one of those people, some of the excitement has probably worn off. But it's still a pretty good gig.
And just so I don't seem too lofty, I've been getting through all the time apart from Matt, and being short of things to do being out of grad school now, with a slight obsession with Dawson's Creek. It takes place in a fictitious Cape Cod town, so now I can sit and pick all the part all the ways it is off base with character accents and local architecture. Katie Holmes is from Toledo, so she sounds more like me than any one I've ever heard around here. But hey, being able to watch a teen soap opera anytime I want is a very small consolation for having a husband who travels. While working again is nice, it's gonna take some adjustment to being off the road with him...But I do get to drive to the Cape tomorrow for a meeting...I never thought I'd be saying that.
